Fasting and Abstinence

Catholics  who are 14 and older are obliged to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons between the age of 18 and 59, are required to fast by only having 1 full meal and 2 light meals on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday,

However, pregnant or nursing women and persons with physical or mental illness are exempted from fasting.  It is important to remember that  people who suffer from any illnesses should not do anything to endanger their health by fasting.
