July 19, 2020: 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.“

Matthew 13:24-25

Pastor’s Message

Today, we celebrate the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today’s Gospel, Jesus shares three parables about the kingdom of heaven, explaining the meaning of the parable of the weeds to his disciples. Growing in our faith is like striving to grow as wheat in a field mixed with weeds. We are face with many temptations today: we do not pray as we ought, we are sometimes weak and in need of forgiveness. But God is just and kind; he judges with leniency, sends his Spirit to our aid, lovingly nurtures us, and patiently awaits our growth. During this week, think about your faith. Is it growing and deepening or stagnant? What can you do this week to nurture your faith?

Next weekend, the second collection will be the Mission Co-op Envelope. This year, the Archdiocese will be sending the contribution to the Diocese of Long Xuyen, Vietnam.

Next weekend, our RCIA Candidates will be received into the Church on Saturday, July 25th at the 4:30pm Mass and First Communion will take place on Sunday, July 26th at the 11:15am Mass. Both of these celebrations will be in the Lower Church.

Thanks for reading, stay healthy, reach out to those close to you and last but not least have a good week.

Your Brother and Shepherd,
Rev. Msgr. Joseph Trinh
