August 16, 2020: 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour.“
Matthew 15:28
Pastor’s Message
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In our gospel this Sunday we experience a side of Jesus that we do not expect. Jesus and his disciples withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. As they were walking along, a Canaanite woman came to Jesus. She called out to him, begging Jesus: “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me! My daughter is possessed and the demon is tormenting her!” However, Jesus does not even acknowledge her presence or her plea. Jesus was amazed at her faith, her persistence and her deep love for her daughter. Jesus then tells her: “Let it be done for you as you wish.” And immediately, her daughter was healed! How persistent are you with Jesus? This week, let us be as persistent with Jesus as this mother was! May we trust that Jesus will not disappoint us!
Registration for our Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) are being taken by Sister Sophie after all Masses in the Lower Church or call the rectory for an appointment.
We are anticipating Confirmation in the Fall of 2021. All students in Level 6 PREP or grades 6 & 7 in St. Helena-Incarnation School must Register for Confirmation. Preparation Classes for Confirmation will start in September.
Finally, please prayerfully consider giving to our parish community online as it does benefit our parish in many important ways. Thanks for reading, stay healthy, reach out to those close to you and last but not least have a good week.
Your Brother and Shepherd,
Rev. Msgr. Joseph Trinh
