Ash Wednesday is on February 17, 2021. Ashes will be distributed after the homily at the 8:00am, 9:00am, and 7:00pm Tri-lingual Mass.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The ashes that we receive on our foreheads serve as reminder that we are sinners and that we need to repent from our sins and live our lives according to the Gospel. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics of certain age are required to fast and abstain from meat.
The Vatican has modified the distribution of ashes for this year’s Ash Wednesday – ashes will be sprinkled on the head instead of placing it on the forehead.
This year, Ash Wednesday falls on February 14 (Valentine’s Day). At St. Helena, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated at 8AM, 9AM and 7PM at the Lower Church on Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence.
